What kinds of stuff are you telling yourself on a daily basis?

In part 1, I explained how your thoughts become your actions and walked you through a simple exercise that can help you break behavioral patterns...and I promised I'll dive deeper into this topic of modifying your thoughts, to modify your words, and thus your actions.

How you think of or label yourself plays a huge part of your identity.

Let's say, you label yourself an "Emotional Eater", here are some of the deeper meanings of this "label":

  • you are broken and needs to be fixed

  • emotional eating is something that needs to be overcome before you can live a happy life

  • emotional eating is bad

  • food is your coping mechanism

  • food is your enemy, so are your emotions

  • you are scared to "feel" your emotions (and emotions eventually come back and hit you harder)

this list goes on and on and on...and forms your identity, your beliefs about yourself, and eventually hinders your ability to stop emotional eating
